During the nine months ended September 30, 2018, the Company completed a non-significant business acquisition for $2.7 million. The preliminary allocation of the net purchase price resulted in $0.5 million of goodwill. The goodwill recognized in connection with the acquisition represents the future economic benefit arising from assets acquired that could not be individually identified and separately recognized, and is attributable to the general reputation, acquisition synergies and expected future cash flows of the acquisition. The final allocation of the purchase price, which the Company expects to complete no later than one year from the acquisition date, may differ from the amounts included in these financial statements. Management does not expect additional adjustments, if any, resulting from changes to the purchase price allocation, to have a material effect on the Company’s financial position or results of operations.

Other assets consist primarily of acquired identifiable intangible assets and capitalized purchased software costs. Intangible assets as of September 30, 2018 and December 31, 2017 were as follows:

Capitalized purchased software costs are being amortized on a straight-line basis over the estimated useful life of the related software, which ranges from 2 to 10 years. Technology licenses are being amortized over their estimated useful lives in proportion to the economic benefits consumed. The Company’s acquired trade names and trademarks have been determined to have an indefinite life. Amortization for the nine months ended September 30, 2018 and 2017 was as follows:
