In calculating the provision for interim income taxes, in accordance with ASC Topic 740, an estimated annual effective tax rate is applied to year-to-date ordinary income. The resulting provision is adjusted for the tax effect of discrete items required to be recorded during the period. At the end of each interim period, the Company adjusts its estimate of the effective tax rate expected to be applicable for the full fiscal year.
In the six months ended June 30, 2025 and 2024, our effective tax rate for continuing operations was 28.5% and 27.1%, respectively. The difference between the effective tax rate and the statutory tax rate is primarily attributable to nondeductible compensation under Section 162(m) and discrete adjustments for RSU and PSU shortfalls. The change in our effective tax rate for the six months ended June 30, 2025, as compared to the six months ended June 30, 2024 was due to the increase of the discrete amounts for RSU and PSU shortfalls and an adjustment for a state tax refund.
