Research and Development Costs	18. Research and Development Costs Expenditures for research and development are charged to expense as incurred and totaled $4.5 million and $17.4 million, respectively, during the three and nine month periods ended September 30, 2020 and $8.1 million and $18.6 million, respectively, for the prior-year periods. Research and development costs are reported as a component of engineering, design and development expenses in our unaudited condensed consolidated statements of operations.
