| Organization, Consolidation and Presentation of Financial Statements [Abstract] | |
| BASIS OF PREPARATION | BASIS OF PREPARATION The accompanying unaudited condensed consolidated financial statements include the accounts of Carter's, Inc. and its wholly owned subsidiaries. All intercompany transactions and balances have been eliminated in consolidation. In the opinion of management, the Company’s accompanying unaudited condensed consolidated financial statements contain all adjustments necessary for a fair statement of its financial position as of June 29, 2013, the results of operations and comprehensive income for the fiscal quarter and the two fiscal quarters ended June 29, 2013 and June 30, 2012, its cash flows for the two fiscal quarters ended June 29, 2013 and June 30, 2012, and its changes in stockholders' equity for the two fiscal quarters ended June 29, 2013. Except as otherwise disclosed, all such adjustments consist only of those of a normal recurring nature. Operating results for the fiscal quarter and two fiscal quarters ended June 29, 2013 are not necessarily indicative of the results that may be expected for the fiscal year ending December 28, 2013. The accompanying condensed consolidated balance sheet as of December 29, 2012 is derived from the Company's audited consolidated financial statements included in its most recently filed Annual Report on Form 10-K. Certain information and footnote disclosure normally included in financial statements prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles in the United States of America (“GAAP”) have been condensed or omitted pursuant to the rules and regulations of the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) and the instructions to Form 10-Q. The accounting policies the Company follows are set forth in its most recently filed Annual Report on Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended December 29, 2012. Certain prior year amounts have been reclassified to facilitate comparability with current year presentation. |
