6. Lease Commitments

The Company has operating lease agreements for its premises that expire on various dates through July 2024. Rent expense for the years ended December 30, 2016, January 1, 2016 and January 2, 2015 was $2.3 million, $2.2 million and $2.2 million, respectively.

Future minimum lease commitments under non-cancelable operating leases as of December 30, 2016, are as follows (in thousands):
