NOTE 9. Recent Accounting Pronouncements Recently Adopted: In January 2013, the FASB issued guidance clarifying the scope of disclosures about offsetting assets and liabilities. The guidance limits the scope of balance sheet offsetting disclosures to derivative instruments, including bifurcated embedded derivatives, repurchase agreements and securities lending transactions to the extent that they are (1) offset in the financial statements or (2) subject to an enforceable master netting arrangement of similar agreement. The disclosure requirements are effective for annual reporting periods beginning on or after January 1, 2013, and interim periods within those annual periods. Entities are required to provide the new disclosures retrospectively for all comparative periods. The Company adopted this guidance effective January 1, 2013. The adoption of this new guidance did not have an impact on the Company’s consolidated financial statements. In February 2013, the FASB issued new accounting guidance on the reporting of amounts reclassified from accumulated other comprehensive income. The guidance is intended to improve the reporting of reclassifications out of accumulated other comprehensive income of various components. This includes requiring an entity to present either parenthetically on the face of the financial statements or in the notes, significant amounts reclassified from each component of accumulated other comprehensive income and the income statement line items affected by the reclassification. The new guidance is effective for public entities for annual periods, and interim periods within those periods, beginning after December 15, 2012. The Company adopted this guidance effective January 1, 2013, which adoption did not have an impact on the Company’s consolidated financial statements. Issued (Not adopted yet):
In March 2013, the FASB issued an update on a parent’s accounting for the cumulative translation adjustment, which we refer to as CTA, upon derecognition of certain subsidiaries or group of assets within a foreign entity or of an investment in a foreign entity. The objective of the update is to resolve the diversity in practice about the appropriate guidance to apply to the release of CTA into net income when a parent either sells a part or all of its investment in a foreign entity or no longer holds a controlling financial interest in a subsidiary or a business within a foreign entity. The update provides that the entire amount of the CTA associated with the foreign entity would be released when there has been a sale of a subsidiary or group of net assets within a foreign entity and the sale represents the substantially complete liquidation of the investment in the foreign entity. This update is effective for fiscal years, and interim periods within those fiscal years, beginning on or after December 15, 2013. The update should be applied prospectively from the beginning of the fiscal year of adoption. We do not expect the adoption of this new guidance to have an impact on the Company’s consolidated financial statements. In July 2013, the FASB issued an amendment of the income tax reporting rules intended to clarify that an unrecognized tax benefit, or a portion of an unrecognized tax benefit, should be presented in the financial statements as a reduction to a deferred tax asset for a net operating loss carryforward, a similar tax loss, or a tax credit carryforward if such settlement is required or expected in the event the uncertain tax benefit is disallowed. In situations where a net operating loss carryforward, a similar tax loss, or a tax credit carryforward is not available at the reporting date under the tax law of the applicable jurisdiction or the tax law of the jurisdiction does not require, and the entity does not intend to use the deferred tax asset for such purpose, the unrecognized tax benefit should be presented in the financial statements as a liability and should not be netted with the deferred tax asset. The amendment is effective for fiscal years, and interim periods within those years, beginning after December 15, 2013. Early adoption is permitted. The amendments should be applied prospectively to all unrecognized tax benefits that exist at the effective date. Retrospective application is permitted. We are currently evaluating the impact that adoption will have on the determination or reporting of our financial results. |
