Inventories consist of the following (in thousands):

Inventories are stated at the lower of cost or net realizable value. We periodically review the value of items in inventory and record any necessary write downs of inventory based on our assessment of market conditions.  We recorded a write down of $1.1 million to adjust our fresh fruit inventory to the lower of cost or net realizable value as of October 31, 2016. We recorded a write down of $0.1 million to adjust our finished prepared foods inventory to the lower of cost or net realizable value as of July 31, 2017.
