(9) Net Loss Per Share

The Company computes basic loss per share using net loss attributable to 3D Systems Corporation and the weighted average number of common shares outstanding during the applicable period. Diluted loss per share incorporates the additional shares issuable upon assumed exercise of stock options and the release of restricted stock and restricted stock units, except in such case when their inclusion would be anti-dilutive.

For the quarters ended September 30, 2019 and September 30, 2018, the effect of dilutive securities, including non-vested stock options and restricted stock awards/units, was excluded from the denominator for the calculation of diluted net loss per share because the Company recognized a net loss for the period and their inclusion would be anti-dilutive. Dilutive securities excluded for the quarter and nine months ended September 30, 2019 were 5,786 compared to 5,770 and 5,455, respectively, for the quarter ended and nine months ended September 30, 2018.
