Press Release The first offshore wind farm developed by the PNE WIND Group in the North Sea delivers first power Cuxhaven, March 3, 2015 – The Borkum Riffgrund I offshore wind farm located to the north of the Island of Borkum started to supply electricity to the German grid several days ago. The 78 wind power turbines are being successively connected to the grid. The PNE WIND Group, an international wind power pioneer from Germany, started developing the offshore wind farm in the North Sea in 2001 alone and later in a joint venture with the Danish energy company DONG Energy. After the entire project was sold to DONG Energy, the PNE WIND Group remained active as a service provider for the Danish energy group. Martin Billhardt, CEO of the PNE WIND Group: “We are pleased that the first wind power turbine of the Borkum Riffgrund I project was successfully connected to the grid. Our offshore team set the stage for this having developed the project up to the ready-to-construct phase. We look to continue our good cooperation with DONG Energy in the Gode Wind projects.” The Borkum offshore wind farm is located 54 kilometres off the mainland and 34 kilometres off the island of Borkum in the North Sea. After completion, the Borkum Riffgrund I will comprise 78 wind power turbines with a nominal capacity of 312 megawatts (MW). This is sufficient to supply approx. 320,000 households with CO 2- free electricity.
