Inventories consist of the following:

Inventories stated on the LIFO basis amounted to $18.8 million at December 31, 2021 and $14.4 million at December 31, 2020, which were below replacement costs by $27.5 million at December 31, 2021 and $12.1 million at December 31, 2020. Inventories stated on the weighted average cost basis were $30.9 million and $33.6 million at December 31, 2021 and 2020, respectively, while inventories stated on the first in, first out method amounted to $38.9 million and $18.4 million at December 31, 2021 and 2020, respective
