Inventories consist of the following:

Inventories stated on the LIFO basis amounted to $25.3 million at December 31, 2022 and $18.8 million at December 31, 2021, which were below replacement costs by $15.6 million at December 31, 2022 and $27.5 million at December 31, 2021. Inventories stated on the weighted average cost basis were $62.9 million and $30.9 million at December 31, 2022 and 2021, respectively, while inventories stated on the FIFO method amounted to $39.5 million and $38.9 million at December 31, 2022 and 2021, respective
