Inventories consist of the following:

Inventories stated on the LIFO basis amounted to $7.2 million at December 31, 2023 and $25.3 million at December 31, 2022, which were below replacement costs by $13.2 million at December 31, 2023 and $15.6 million at December 31, 2022. Inventories stated on the weighted average cost basis were $45.3 million and $62.9 million at December 31, 2023 and 2022, respectively, while inventories stated on the FIFO method amounted to $29.6 million and $39.5 million at December 31, 2023 and 2022, respective
