More domestic passengers in September A total of 1.8 million passengers passed through Copenhagen Airport in September 2009, 6.9% fewer than in the same month last year. The number of passengers on domestic routes rose by 3.3%, growth driven by an increase in competition on the service to Aalborg. “September traffic continued to follow the trend of previous months: after a drop at the beginning of the year, the number of passengers using the airport continues to be stable at a lower level than last year. It is gratifying, however, to see growth on domestic routes, primarily due to the added competition on the most popular service, Copenhagen-Aalborg,” says Carsten Nørland, director of aviation with Copenhagen Airports. 21 departures for Aalborg daily There are three airlines on the Aalborg route today - SAS, Cimber Sterling and Norwegian - and this gives passengers several different departures and ticket prices to choose from. Taken together, these three airlines offer as many as 21 departures daily in each direction on this route. “This ‘air bridge' between Aalborg and Copenhagen is helping to tie Denmark together for both business travellers and families. It also gives people from northern Jutland quick access to the many international flights out of Copenhagen Airport,” says Nørland. A total of 1,797,074 passengers passed through Copenhagen Airport in September. The number of locally departing passengers was 2.7% lower than in September last year, and the number of transfer passengers 17.6% lower. International traffic was down 8.0% and the number of domestic passengers down 3.3% from September last year.
