Passenger numbers continued to stabilise in October Just over 1.8 million passengers travelled through Copenhagen Airport in October 2009. This was a 2.7% year-on-year decline, continuing the improving trend highlighted in the Q3 results, whilst the year-to-date rate of decline was 10.1%. Domestic traffic continued to grow and increased by 9.1% in October. “The 2.7% drop in passenger numbers made October the best month so far this year for Copenhagen Airport. However, the moderate decline should be seen in light of the fact that it was in October 2008 the consequences of the global financial crisis really began to feed through to passenger numbers. When this is taken into account, performance in October of this year was more or less on a level with the previous four months, which was in line with our expectations,” said Carsten Nørland, VP, Sales, Copenhagen Airports. Accordingly, the number of passengers has now stabilised after double-digit declines earlier in the year. Domestic traffic increased for the fourth consecutive month: the growth rate for October was 9.1%, the highest so far this year. The main reason was the increased competition on the Copenhagen-Aalborg route. In October, a total of 1,809,524 passengers travelled through Copenhagen Airport. The number of locally departing passengers dropped by 0.2%, the number of transfer passengers dropped by 10.5%, whilst international traffic was down by 4.0% as compared with the numbers for October last year.
