Passenger numbers grew in December Copenhagen Airport's December 2009 figures showed year-on-year growth of 3.9% in passenger numbers. Almost 1.4 million passengers travelled through the airport during the month of Christmas, making it the second consecutive month of growth in passenger numbers. In 2009 as a whole, 19,715,451 passengers travelled through the airport, which was 8.4% fewer than in 2008. “2009 was a difficult year for the aviation industry, but since the spring, we have seen a gradual improvement in passenger numbers, and we are pleased with the growth recorded in the past two months, said Carsten Nørland, VP, Sales, Copenhagen Airports. A total of 1,380,524 passengers travelled through Copenhagen Airport in December 2009. One of the factors contributing to the increase in passenger numbers was COP15, the United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Copenhagen during the month. The number of locally departing passengers rose by 6.8%, whilst the number of transfer passengers dropped by 5.5%. International traffic grew by 2.2%, and domestic traffic continued the growth record seen during the past six months and grew by 18.6% in December.
