CPH started the year on a growth note Copenhagen Airport set a monthly passenger record in January at almost 1.6 million passengers. The rate of increase was 5.3% year-on-year. Transfer traffic grew significantly. With a total of 1,582,496 passengers travelling through Copenhagen Airport in January, the year began on a growth note. International traffic grew 7.2%, while transfer traffic, up by as much as 11.8%, was the primary factor behind the improvement. "Transfer passengers contribute to the sustainability of our intercontinental route network, and the growth in transfer traffic is therefore important for our position as a hub," said Carsten Nørland, VP, Sales & Marketing for Copenhagen Airport, and he continued: "Blue1's strengthening of its traffic to and from Helsinki helps boost the number of transfer passengers, and Blue1's decision to change its entire route network from April and use Copenhagen Airport as a hub is expected to have a major impact on transfer traffic.” Blue1’s focus on Copenhagen is reflected directly in January's Top 10 of destinations, as traffic from Helsinki increased by as much as 29.1% year on year, advancing Helsinki from number eight to number six on the list. As usual, the top three destinations were London, Oslo and Stockholm, whilst Aalborg retained its position as number four on the list in spite of a decline in domestic traffic.
