The ProSiebenSat.1 Group reports a solid performance in the first quarter of 2001 despite a difficult start into the advertising year. According to the preliminary figures for the first quarter of 2001 published today, the ProSiebenSat.1 Group generated consolidated revenues of Euro 513.7 million in the first three months of 2001. This represents a decrease of two percent, or Euro twelve million respectively, over the pro-forma figures for the first three months of last year. The slight decline in revenues was mainly attributable to the fact that the television area was negatively affected by the declining advertising market in January and February 2001. In March, the ProSiebenSat.1 Group’s channels reported a four percent increase in revenues in comparison with March 2000. The restrained start of the advertising year 2001 had only a limited impact on the results of the ProSiebenSat.1 Group. With regard to the results, the lower revenues were mostly offset by reduced operating costs and the synergy effects due to the merger of SAT.1 and ProSieben Media AG. In the first quarter of 2001, the group’s pre-tax profit was Euro 28.6 million, due to greater investments in attractive programming. The group’s plannings had for the first three months of 2001 originally projected a pre-tax profit of Euro 34.1 million. This compares to a pro-forma figure of Euro 45.5 million for the same period in 2000. In the first quarter of 2001, the group’s pre-tax profit was only around Euro five million lower than originally projected.
