              Union Bankshares Announces Third Quarter Earnings
                       and Quarterly Dividend Payment

Morrisville, VT October 14, 2005 - Union Bankshares, Inc. (AMEX - UNB)
today announced net income for the quarter ended September 30, 2005 was
$1.494 million or $.33 per share compared to $1.499 million or $.33 per
share for the same period in 2004. September 30, 2005 year to date results
were net income of $4.322 million or $.95 per share compared to previous
year results of $4.078 million or $.90 per share for September 30, 2004.
Total loans have grown $12.3 million or 4.3% to $297.0 million at September
30, 2005 from September 30, 2004. Deposits have grown $9.2 million or 3.0%
over the same period.

A quarterly dividend of $.26 per share was declared on October 14, 2005 to
shareholders of record October 24, 2005, payable October 27, 2005. This is
an increase of $.02 per share over the previous regular dividend paid in
July.

Union, with headquarters in Morrisville, Vermont is the bank holding
company parent of Union Bank, which offers deposit, loan, trust and
commercial banking services throughout northern Vermont. As of September
30, 2005, the Company had approximately $377 million in consolidated assets
and operated 12 banking offices, 30 ATM facilities in Vermont and loan
origination offices in St. Albans, Vermont and Littleton, New Hampshire.
