After the profound break in the past business year – which saw turnover of DM 69.9 million (previous year: DM 59.5 million) and a result before income taxes (US-GAAP) of negative DM 15.0 million, making 2000 the first loss year in the history of the company – Dino entertainment AG entered the current year without old liabilities. Following consistent restructuring, the discontinuation of deficitary product lines and the implementation of new trademark rights, Dino already intends to obtain a balanced result in 2001 and will likely attain some DM 75 million in turnover – a seven-percent increase as compared to the previous year and an increase of no less than 29.3 percent when adjusted for those divisions which were discontinued as a result of the restructuring. Dino expects decisive impetus for growth in 2001 from the expansion of the Manga/Anime line. “Manga”, the Japanese version of the cartoon, and “Anime”, the TV and computer version of this cartoon, already have a huge and steadily growing group of fans in Germany and are considered to be the trend of the future on the youth market. An important step is the joint venture with DYNAMIC, Japan’s leading supplier of “Manga & Anime” products. Both partners will have a 50-percent stake in the joint venture. DYNAMIC is the world’s largest licenser in the “Anime” sector. DYNAMIC licenses for TV, video/DVD, print and merchandising are to be marketed in Germany as part of the joint venture. In an initial step, more than 40 licensing rights, which include more than 600 hours of “Anime” TV formats, are to be marketed.
