The Norwegian Parliament yesterday approved funding for the Longship CCS project as part of the national budget for 2021, confirming the ambition to realise the full value chain for carbon capture, transport and permanent storage.
The Longship project includes building the first carbon capture plant at a cement factory anywhere in the world. Aker Carbon Capture will deliver the plant to the cement factory in Brevik, Norway, which is operated by Norcem HeidelbergCement.
“This marks a milestone for Aker Carbon Capture and the whole CCS industry. Realising Longship means that hundreds of companies across northern Europe now have a real opportunity to remove their CO2 emissions and transform their industries into sustainable businesses,” said Valborg Lundegaard, chief executive officer of Aker Carbon Capture.
Aker Carbon Capture will deliver the CCS plant in Brevik. The project will start up in the first quarter of 2021 and is scheduled to be in operation from 2024.
