Grønn Vekst awarded major contract for municipal biosolids treatment in South-Eastern Norway

Grønn Vekst, part of Cambi’s Solutions segment, has been awarded a multi‑year contract by Sirkulær Bestiller for the transport, treatment and final management of sewage sludge from municipal wastewater treatment plants in Bamble, Holmestrand, Horten and Sandefjord.

Following standard Norwegian public procurement procedures, the agreement is expected to be signed after a twelve‑day standstill period following the award notification (Norwegian “karenstid”).

Service delivery starts on 1 February 2026 and runs for six years until 31 January 2032. The contracting authority holds two unilateral extension options of one year each. Including options, the total contract value falls within Cambi’s “Major” category for contract announcements, i.e., higher than NOK 200 million. The annual volume is approximately 10,000 tonnes of biosolids.

Under the scope, Grønn Vekst will collect biosolids from participating plants, transport them to treatment, and manage the digestate after processing. Treatment will take place at the new Krogstad sludge treatment centre in Lillestrøm, near Oslo, under a cooperation agreement established with Nedre Romerike vann- og avløpsselskap IKS (NRVA) for this contract. The new facility uses Cambi’s thermal hydrolysis technology, supporting efficient biogas production and high‑quality downstream handling.

The procurement placed significant weight on environmental performance. Price accounts for 70% of the evaluation, while climate and environmental criteria account for 30%, with specific emphasis on biogas‑based treatment, the upgrading of biogas for transport, and low‑emission logistics.

Bernd Anders Keller, CEO of Grønn Vekst, said:

“Grønn Vekst is grateful for being entrusted with this important contract, which demonstrates our capacity, preparedness, and environmental credentials. In close collaboration with NRVA, the solution will maximise energy recovery through biogas and ensure responsible biosolids management. The team looks forward to working with Sirkulær Bestiller and the municipalities throughout the contract period.”

Sirkulær Bestiller is a Norwegian contracting authority established to procure treatment solutions for food waste and biosolids on behalf of its owners, municipalities and municipal owned companies along the west side of the Oslo Fjord from Drammen to the Grenland area. For this procurement, the participating municipalities are Bamble, Holmestrand, Horten and Sandefjord.
