Fjord Defence Group ASA – Progress on US development contract for lightweight tripod

Oslo, 12 August 2025

Fjord Defence Group ASA’s subsidiary Fjord Defence (FD) is pleased to report that FD has concluded qualification on its development contract in the US for the Lightweight Machine Gun Tripod (LMGT) with Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict ASD(SO/LIC). The development contract was won through a competitive process in 2024 and consisted of development, initial delivery and options. 50% of the options are already ordered and will be delivered to the customer in the US in December 2025.

Designed to support military innovation in Irregular Warfare, the LMGT is purpose-built to serve as a stable platform for the ongoing upgrades to ground operator weapon systems. It is compatible with several weapons including the new .338 caliber machine gun. FD’s LMGT stands out versus competitors due to its superior stability and weight ensuring optimized weapon performance. The .338 caliber is a new caliber which the US and other NATO countries have planned to introduce in their Armies and special forces over the next years.

Jon Asbjørn Bø, CEO in Fjord Defence Group, comments: “The successful qualification of our newly developed lightweight tripod represents a major step forward for FD to scale our present in the US market. As the tripod is tailored to the new .338 caliber, but also compatible for all types of 7.62 caliber, the future annual revenue potential for FD is substantial, especially from 2027 onwards. We also experience large interest for the LMGT from several other NATO countries, and it will be launched at one of the largest defence exhibitions DSEi in London during September this year”
