IDEX opens office in the Silicon Valley area
Oslo, Norway, 21 October 2013: IDEX opens a California office in the Silicon
Valley area. The office will be headed by Thar Casey, President of IDEX's US
subsidiary IDEX America Inc. Mr. Casey was previously CEO of PicoField
Technologies, Inc.
On 23 September 2013 IDEX acquired technology and hired staff from PicoField
Technologies, Inc.
"The Silicon Valley office gives us a presence right at the centre hotspot in a
very important region for information technology and our business," said Dr.
Hemant Mardia, CEO of IDEX. "This is a significant step in achieving a global
presence for IDEX in order to exploit the rapidly increasing demand for
fingerprint biometrics in the consumer market, and especially for low-cost swipe
and touch sensors for mobile devices," he added.
The office in Silicon Valley will be expanded to handle demand from customers
and partners in line with business development.
"Silicon Valley is ground zero for innovation in technology today. We are
excited to join this vibrant community by bringing our own experience, IP
portfolio and future products to the Valley," said Thar Casey, President of IDEX
America. "Our goal is to make a strong presence in the Valley by partnering with
the leaders in the ecosystem that drives advances in mobile devices."
Apple's release of its Touch ID technology in the iPhone 5S last month has put
fingerprint technology squarely in the mobile technology spotlight, and the
market is expected to show rapid growth.
"It is important to note that smartphone vendors other than Apple hold over 85
per cent of the market, and IDEX is one of three principal suppliers positioned
to serve the mass market for increased authentication both on smartphones and
other consumer devices. A footprint in Silicon Valley is very important to IDEX,
and I am thrilled by the prospects from this jump-start of our presence in the
USA, leveraging existing networks resulting from the PicoField agreement
together with supporting strategic relationships resulting from IDEX reputation
for industry leading fingerprint sensor IP and technology," said Dr. Mardia.
