Bergen, Norway, July 14th, 2025 -- M Vest Water (EURONEXT: MVW) today
announces the successful completion of the qualification step of its
NORWAFLOC® products at METHA, a facility operated by the Hamburg Port
Authority.
The successful qualification has advanced MVW to the next step, a one-week
verification run at the end of July. Upon repeated success, a long-term final
qualification run in autumn 2025 will be the last step before final METHA
approval, positioning MVW for further commercial negotiations with METHA.
Background:
With reference to the earlier announcement on October 22, 2023, MVW conducted
a full-scale qualification test at one of the largest mechanical dredging
sludge dewatering sites in Europe. During this test, dredging sludge was
successfully treated for dewatering by replacing 25% of the synthetic
polyacrylamide with the natural NORWAFLOC® product, achieving significantly
improved dewatering results. Subsequently, the plant underwent major equipment
upgrades.
In the meantime, MVW has announced a major breakthrough in product
development, enabling NORWAFLOC® to replace 100% of synthetic chemicals These
new environmentally friendly and innovative products have now been proven
successful in a large-scale pilot at one of two large chamber filter presses
at METHA.
About METHA:
METHA is a flagship in the dredging industry, due to both its size and role in
sustainable dredging management. The dewatering plant dewaters all dredging
sludge from the continuous operations required to keep the port open for the
approximately 12,000 ships that arrive in Hamburg annually. On average, METHA
dewaters 300,000 tonnes of sludge each year and has the capacity to treat
1,000,000 tonnes. As part of the Hamburg Port Authority, METHA is often
referred to as "the washing machine of the port of Hamburg."
"We highly appreciate the support and cooperation from METHA over the past two
years. Their interest and support have been invaluable motivators and
contributors to MVW reaching the milestone of replacing synthetic chemicals
with nature-based NORWAFLOC® in dredging sludge dewatering applications. By
introducing a competitive natural-based chemical for dredging, we support
METHA and the Hamburg Port Authority's goal of reducing their carbon footprint
and adopting an eco-friendlier approach across all their activities," says Tor
Olav Gabrielsen, Executive Chairman at MVW.
