August 20, 2025 – NEXT Biometrics, a global leader in advanced high-security fingerprint sensor technology, has announced the first large-scale production order for its new FAP 30 ‘Granite’ sensor. NEXT will supply the sensors to an existing Indian OEM customer. The customer has signed an initial purchase order valued at NOK 3.2 million and initial delivery of the order is scheduled for Q4 2025.
The sensors will be integrated into readers deployed to support Government ID programs including biometric identity systems underpinning law enforcement efforts in Africa and Latin America.
With a 66% larger sensing area than FAP 20 sensors, the ‘Granite’ sensor offers increased accuracy, resolution and security. This makes the sensor ideal for high-end use cases including national identity projects, elections, border control, banking and healthcare.
“With the launch of our FAP 30 sensor just a few months ago, this first large-scale order demonstrates the existing demand for this kind of solution. The trust and ongoing collaboration from an existing customer is also great to see after they signed a MoU for this product in December last year, before we’d even launched it,” comments Ulf Ritsvall, CEO at NEXT Biometrics. “As Governments and organizations increasingly specify FAP 30 for high-security use cases, our sensors offer the accuracy, security and convenience needed to manage strong authentication and identification at scale. We're pleased to support our long-standing customer in leading the way.”
NEXT’s Active Thermal® technology uses both heat from the finger and 3D imaging to authenticate the user. This enables superior liveness detection to combat spoofing attacks, when compared with other fingerprint authentication technologies.
The NEXT FAP 30 product minimizes sensor thickness and optimizes image resolution and energy consumption, simplifying integration with devices like readers, tablets, terminals and more. This enables portability of identification devices and exceptional performance in varying light and environmental conditions.
Over the last 25 years, NEXT Biometrics has shipped more than 10 million sensors. Its Active Thermal technologies are certified by entities including Aadhaar, FBI-PIV, MOSIP Compliance and NIBSS, and have been implemented in countries including Bangladesh, China, Ghana, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, U.S. and Vietnam.
