Norsk Titanium’s RPD® Titanium Alloy Material Properties Officially Accepted For Publication in the MMPDS Handbook

Plattsburgh, New York – January 8, 2025 – Norsk Titanium today announces that the material properties of titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) produced using its Rapid Plasma Deposition® (RPD®) technology have been officially accepted for publication in the Metallic Materials Properties Development and Standardization (MMPDS) Handbook.

“This is a major achievement for the adoption of additive manufacturing at scale and an important milestone for Norsk Titanium,” says Fabrizio Ponte, CEO of Norsk Titanium. “MMPDS is the go-to handbook for engineers in the aerospace industry, and the inclusion confirms that our RPD® technology meets the most rigorous technical, safety, and performance requirements.”

The MMPDS Handbook is the primary reference source for statistically validated material properties used across commercial and military aerospace programs worldwide. It is developed through collaboration between government, industry, and academic experts, and is recognized by certification authorities including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), and NASA.

Norsk Titanium is a global leader in additive manufacturing for aerospace-grade structural titanium alloy components using its patented RPD® technology, and the accepted material data constitutes the world’s first publication of any additively manufactured material properties to be included in the MMPDS Handbook: Volume II Process Intensive Materials and Joining Technologies.

Norsk Titanium’s inclusion in MMPDS builds upon its earlier milestone as the first to publish SAE Aerospace Material Specifications for wire-arc produced titanium. By adding RPD® material data to MMPDS, engineers and OEMs gain access to regulator-recognized properties for certifiable aerospace and defense designs, reducing the need for repeated qualification and accelerating adoption. This achievement supports current and future applications across commercial aerospace, defense, space, and other regulated industrial markets, paving the way for broader use of additive manufacturing technologies.
