Norwegian Block Exchange (NBX) Pauses Credit Card Programme

OSLO, NORWAY - July 7th, 2025 - Norwegian Block Exchange (NBX), a leading Nordic cryptocurrency exchange and digital asset platform, will pause the card programme after Nordiska exits Norway.

The reception of the card has been fantastic, and NBX is proud to have issued the first credit card in the world with Bitcoin cashback. Observing giants like Coinbase and Gemini recently adopting similar programmes is a testament to the idea of everyday saving in Bitcoin based upon consumer spending.

The decision is due to Nordiska exiting Norway as part of a strategic change; thus, NBX is without a credit provider and must discontinue the NBX Visa Credit Card. Affected customers will receive communication from Nordiska detailing the process going forward. As previously communicated, NBX has not issued cards in 2025 due to waiting to be registered as a loan provider “låneformidler” by the NFSA.

NBX is working with other credit providers and aims to have this in place after summer. The card has been a significant investment and focus for us since launching. Since inception, NBX has paid out 4,26 BTC in cashback (MNOK 4,7), facilitated almost 600k transactions transactions, and the first cashback given to a customer has appreciated 300%, in stark contrast to traditional credit card programmes where the focus is on continued spending and not saving in a scarce asset.
