(Haar, Germany, April 2, 2003) With the decision of the VOLKSWAGEN Group to
employ the DTS Base System (DIAGNOSTIC TOOL SET) based on the ASAM MCD standard,
Softing has reached yet another milestone in the expansion of its leading
market position. ASAM MCD (the Association for Standardization of Automation and
Measuring Systems) will significantly facilitate the exchange and management of
critical data throughout the entire VOLKSWAGEN Group for brands such as
Volkswagen, Audi, Seat and Skoda. The decision of a major automobile
manufacturer like the VOLKSWAGEN Group to implement DTS will accelerate the
distribution of the DTS product family both within the automotive industry and
with direct suppliers. The expansion of this segment in the Automotive
Electronics division of Softing AG is likely to contribute several million euros
to the company’s sales in the coming years.
As the number of electronic control units used in the automotive industry
increases steadily, standardized processes for managing and exchanging
diagnostic data between automobile manufacturers and their suppliers have become
a critical factor for reducing costs. The costs for these tasks in the
automotive industry are estimated to be in the triple-digit millions based on
the entire production run of high-volume models.
Softing has contributed greatly to the definition of this standard, and it is
the first manufacturer to offer its customers products based on the new ASAM MCD
diagnostic standard. The Softing DTS product designation has now become a
hallmark in the industry for the broad positioning of diagnostic tools over the
entire life-cycle of control devices – that is, from development, through the
downloading of data (reprogramming/flashing), all the way to the workshop
tester. DTS is expected to continue to spread through Softing and its
cooperative partners.
With its hardware (EDIC Interface family) and software products (such as DTS)
and individual services, Softing AG is well-positioned in the area of automotive
electronics as a competent technology and engineering company. For Softing,
gaining Volkswagen as a new business partner confirms the company’s activities
and role as a leading partner to the automotive industry for on- and off-board
communication.
