The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– Splendid Medien AG in the first half of 2001 – Distinct upswing – Very good quarter for revenues and earnings – High growth rates in cinema exploitation and in the exploitation of sales through video cassettes and DVDs Splendid Medien AG of Cologne has increased its consolidated revenues in the second quarter of 2001 by 162% to EUR9.7 mill. in comparison with the first quarter. This means that the total revenues for the first six months of 2001 reached EUR13.4 mill. Increases were achieved primarily in the cinema exploitation and sales through video cassette and DVD sectors. In the first six months of this year, Splendid Medien AG exploited four films in cinemas in Germany in addition to the thriller “Traffic”, which won four Oscar awards, and attained revenues from them amounting to EUR7.3 mill. In the sales through video cassette and DVD sector, there was an increase in sales of 133% to EUR2.8 mill in comparison with the same period last year. In the licence trading segment international, the Group achieved sales of EUR1.9 mill in the first half of the year 2001. In the licence trading segment national, Splendid had a turnover in the first six months of 2001 of EUR0.4 mill in a persistently difficult market environment. The half-year earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) amounted to EUR4.5 mill. Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) were EUR4.2 mill higher in the second quarter of 2001 than in the first quarter. The result is a low positive EBIT figure over the entire half year. In the first six months of 2001, Splendid recorded DVFA earnings per share of EUR0.05. As at the close of the period, the company’s film rights were worth EUR76.5 million, up 46% over the value shown in the same period last year. The Group stands by its forecast for total revenues of EUR51 mill for the year 2001. A decisive part of this will be derived from the sale of licence rights of two co-productions as well as from the DVD and video exploitation of further cinema productions.
