The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– SÜSS MicroTec continues its success – Provisional sales figures for the second quarter exceed analysts’expectations – 80 percent growth in sales in the first half of 2001 – 30 percent increase in sales expected for 2001 overall Munich, 31 July 2001 – SÜSS MicroTec AG, world wide one of the leading manufacturers of production and testing equipment in the field of microelectronics, generated net sales in excess of 50 million Euro in the second quarter 2001 (an increase of approximately 47 percent compared with the same period last year). In the first half of 2001 net sales amounted to more than 102 million Euro, equivalent to an increase in excess of 80 percent compared with the previous year’s figure of 56.5 million Euro. Whilst order entry, at just over 40 million Euro, were below the previous year’s figure (52.6 million Euro), they are still at a pleasantly high level given the general conditions facing the semi-conductor industry. Overall the company’s order entry in the first half of 2001 valued at 96 million Euro, which is on the same level as the previous year’s figure. These figures indicate that SÜSS MicroTec is still on target for the goals it has set itself, whilst at the same time marginally exceeding the analysts’ expectations. As expected, the ongoing economic downturn is having less impact on SÜSS MicroTec than on comparable companies in the same industry. SÜSS primarily services market niches that are currently undergoing technological change. For example, SÜSS is supplying production machines for the first time for the new connection technology being introduced in chip production (Advanced Packaging). As such, SÜSS is benefiting from the growth of these new applications and is not directly affected by any reductions in existing production. For the year 2001 overall, the Executive Board of SÜSS MicroTec is upholding its forecast of a 30 percent increase in sales to some 210 million Euro and earnings after taxes of approximately 16 million Euro (previous year: 12 million Euro).
