SÜSS MicroTec reiterates plan figures for 2001
– Sales rose by 27% to approximately EUR 48.5 million compared to same quarter
of previous year
– Incoming orders in September weaker than expected
Munich, October 5, 2001. SÜSS MicroTec AG, one of the leading producers of
processing and testing devices for microelectronics worldwide, is publishing
preliminary figures for the 3rd quarter of the 2001 financial year. According
to these figures the company is generating excellent sales despite the current
economic weakness in the semi-conductor industry and has confirmed the figures
announced for the 2001 financial year (sales EUR 210 million, EAT (earnings
after tax) EUR 16 million).
In Q3, net sales rose by 27% to approximately EUR 48.5 million over EUR 38.2
million during the same period of the previous year. Thus sales during the
first nine months of the financial year attained a volume of EUR 151 million.
This corresponds to a plus of EUR 56.3 million (59%) over the previous year’s
period.
At about EUR 28 million, incoming orders in the 3rd quarter of the financial
year were lower by 32% than in the previous quarter (EUR 41 million). This
figure already includes cancelled orders of a volume of EUR 2.3 million. Order
entry reached EUR 124,5 million within the first nine months of the current
financial year. That is 22% less than during the same period of the previous
year (EUR 160 million). Order backlog amounted to EUR 90 million at the end of
the third quarter.
According to company observations, the downturn in orders in Q3 is caused by
the weak economy worldwide and the situation in the semi-conductor industry. In
addition, due to the tragic events in the USA there is a decline of orders
particularly in September, traditionally the strongest month in the third
quarter. This does not result in any changes of market shares in relation to
competitors.
The company does not expect major changes for Q4 on the grounds of the economic
and political situation. Therefore the limited visibility with regard to
incoming orders will continue short-term. Medium-term, however, SÜSS MicroTec
is expecting an increase in orders as the semi-conductor industry is counting
on SÜSS technologies for their investment decisions with respect to the next
upswing.
