– Sales at previous quarters level
– New orders stable in third quarter
– Company reaffirms 2002 forecast
Munich, October 9, 2002. SÜSS MicroTec AG, one of the worlds leading
manufacturers of production and testing equipment for the microelectronics
industry, reports preliminary figures for the third quarter of the
business year 2002 that constitute a satisfactory trend when compared
with the unfavorable semiconductor industry environment.
For the third quarter 2002, the company posted net sales of approx. EUR 28
million (first quarter: EUR 28.9 million, second quarter: EUR 27.5 million).
Year on year, sales are, therefore, well below those in boom year 2001 (third
quarter 2001: EUR 48.7 million). New orders in the third quarter of 2002 were,
at roughly EUR 30 million, both higher than in the previous quarters (first
quarter: EUR 23.8 million; second quarter: EUR 29.7 million) and up on
the year (third quarter 2001: EUR 28.7 million).
At the beginning of August 2002, the Executive Board revised its forecasts for
the business year 2002 on the basis of emerging trends. The course of business
in the third quarter confirms these forecasts. The cost reduction measures in
place since the end of 2001 include adjustments to staff numbers that on the
basis of these already initiated measures will by the end of the business year
2002 reach below 900 employees. Additional measures for a further reduction of
100 employees will commence during the fourth quarter 2002.
