United Internet approaches profit zone
Montabaur, February 14, 2001 – According to preliminary figures fiscal 2000
proved a successful period for United Internet. The network’s total sales grew
by 78.8 % to EUR 243.7 million. Consolidated sales of the United Internet Group
were up 60 percent to EUR 194.3 million. There was also a positive development
of key earnings ratios: EBITDA rose from EUR -5.4 million in 1999 to a positive
EUR 1.0 million in 2000. The figure includes for the first time the full losses
of GMX, which reduced total EBITDA by EUR 10 million. However, there was a
positive effect from the correction of an expense allowance formed in 1999 for
the costs of a staff stock-option scheme valued at EUR 4.4 million.
Of total consolidated sales, EUR 157.6 million (81.1%) originated from
affiliates posting a positive EBT in 2000.
Goodwill amortization of majority holdings amounted to EUR 10.8 million for the
Group. Depreciation of tangible, intangible and financial assets totalled EUR
24,9 million. The losses of companies consolidated at-equity amounted to EUR
18.5 million. There were also additional extraordinary costs of EUR 0.9 million.
Due to amortization and depreciation allowances, the United Internet Group
posted a pre-tax result (EBT) of EUR -54.1 million. The writedowns include
allowances for Group investment losses amounting to EUR 8.3 million. In the
separate financial statements of United Internet AG the figure amounted to EUR –
15.1 million.
Based on these figures, DVFA-earnings per share amounted to EUR -0.95 after
