United Internet has completed a successful first quarter of fiscal year 2002. Consolidated sales of United Internet AG rose by over 16 percent to EUR 70.9 million. A total of EUR 62.4 million (88%) of consolidated sales was contributed by subsidiaries posting positive EBT figures in the first quarter of 2002. Earnings made particularly strong progress: earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) increased from EUR 2.5 million (prior year) to EUR 18.4 million. Consolidated earnings before taxes (EBT) for the United Internet Group rose to EUR 13.4 million (prior year: EUR -7.4 million, incl. goodwill write-downs of EUR 3.2 million). Both EBITDA and EBT were affected by extraordinary items in the first quarter, with a net positive impact on earnings of EUR 5.3 million. This includes extraordinary income of EUR 10.8 million from the sale of AdLINK shares to DoubleClick Inc., as well as restructuring charges for AdLINK Internet Media AG amounting to EUR 5.5 million for the integration of DoubleClick’s European media business. Without these once-only, extraordinary items the adjusted EBITDA figure amounts to EUR 13.1 million, while adjusted EBT totals EUR 8.1 million. Including these extraordinary items, earnings per share amount to EUR 0.24 (prior year: EUR -0.12). Without extraordinary items, adjusted earnings per share total EUR 0.09. As of March 31, 2002 the Group’s operative cash flow amounted to EUR 7.3 million (prior year: EUR 1.7 million).
