Fiscal 2002 proved a very successful year for United Internet. Consolidated sales of United Internet AG rose by 38 percent over the previous year to reach EUR 320 million. The development of earnings was particularly strong: after adjustment for special items, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) rose to EUR 62.0 million (prior year: EUR 23.8 million). Adjusted for special items, pre-tax earnings (EBT) of the United Internet Group grew to EUR 38.8 million (prior year: EUR -42.6 million, incl. EUR 41.1 million amortization on goodwill and write-downs on investments). In fiscal 2002 there were also special items, which on balance added a further EUR 5.2 million to EBITDA and EUR 2.3 million to EBT. Adjusted to include these non-recurrent special items, EBITDA amounted to EUR 67.2 million, while EBT totaled EUR 41.1 million. Earnings per share amounted to EUR 0.66 (prior year: EUR -0.63). Without special items, the adjusted earnings per share figure reached EUR 0.56. As of December 31, 2002 the Groups operative cash flow totaled EUR 54.4 million (prior year: EUR 15.3 million). At the Annual Shareholders Meeting on May 16, 2003, the Executive Board and Supervisory Board of United Internet AG will recommend a dividend of 50 cents (10 cents basic dividend plus 40 cents bonus) per share for fiscal 2002. This corresponds to an average of 10 cents per share for every year since the companys IPO in 1998.
