The sender is solely responsible for the contents of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– Basler Expands Presence in Asia Representative Office Opened in Shanghai Ahrensburg, 16 September 2002 – Basler AG – the leading company for vision technology, the technology of artificial vision – has opened a new representative office in Shanghai in a move to expand its operations in Asia. Together with its well-established units in Taiwan and Singapore, this office now forms a third pillar within one of Basler’s most important regional markets. “From Shanghai we’ll be able to target the China growth market,” explained CEO Dr. Dietmar Ley. “Many of our existing customers are building additional capacity in China. The Chinese market will be a particularly attractive one for selling our inspection systems for CDs/DVDs, while excellent opportunities stand to develop for marketing test systems for flatscreen displays and plastic foils.” Asia already generates up to 30% of Basler’s sales revenues. The Chinese market was being taken care of from Taiwan, a situation that only allowed the southern part of the Chinese mainland to be adequately serviced. “It’s extremely important for our present and future Chinese clients to have a partner contact right there in the country. Thanks to this new office, we were able to fill this gap within our sales and service coverage,” stressed Ley. In light of China’s increasing economic development, ever-greater demands are being put on industrial manufacturing facilities to attain more production-process output at shorter and shorter intervals. Here is where Basler’s image-processing-based test systems play a key role. Experts estimate that Asian markets had a value of about 2.2 billion euros in 2001 and accounted for 40% of the world market for these kinds of image-processing products.
