No.): 548956, Ticker Symbol: ULC UNITEDLABELS optimistic, with higher level of orders in first quarter – Revenues amount to EUR7.4 million – Volume of orders increases by 77% year on year – Targets for 2002 reaffirmed (Münster, 2 Mai 2002) – UNITEDLABELS AG (DE 0005489561), the Münster-based specialists for comicware sold under licence, generated consolidated revenues of EUR7.4 million (previous year: EUR8.0 million) and a loss before taxes of EUR0.5 million (previous year: EBIT of EUR0.2 million) in the first quarter of the 2002 financial year. Its gross margin percentage increased to a level of 32.1%, a tangible improvement on the previous year (previous year: 18.6%). Operating expenses and staff costs were in line with expectations, following the implementation of cost-cutting measures. The prevailing economic conditions at the end of 2001 resulted in postponements of orders, and thus to a 7% decline in revenues for the first quarter in relation to the same period last year. Owing to substantial incoming orders since the beginning of the new financial year, the volume of orders increased by 77% to EUR8.8 million. Based on this, the company is still expecting to achieve a 25% revenue increase and positive bottom-line results for the current financial year.
