No.): 548956, Ticker Symbol: ULC – Sales revenues increased by 6.2% year on year – Positive EBIT for third quarter and for first 9 months (Münster, November 12, 2002) – UNITEDLABELS AG (DE 0005489561), Europe’s leading specialist for comicware sold under licence, was able to raise sales revenues by 6.2% in the first nine months of 2002 relative to the same period last year, taking this figure to EUR 23.4 million. At the same time, the gross profit margin improved to 37.4% (same period last year: 7.2%), particularly as a result of more efficient sales activities with a product mix built on higher margins. Scheduled cost reductions within the areas of staffing (minus 19%) and other expenses (minus 20%), coupled with enhanced productivity in all areas of the company, resulted in a return to positive earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of EUR 60 thousand. In the third quarter alone, revenues amounted to EUR 7.4 million (previous year: EUR 7.0 million), a 5.4% increase achieved in spite of the prevailing difficulties witnessed in the retail sector. EBIT for the third quarter amounted to EUR 0.3 million, as opposed to a loss before interest and taxes of EUR 7.7 million recorded in the previous year. In view of the 11.2% increase in the volume of orders on hand, which are currently worth EUR 7.9 million (previous year: EUR 7.1 million) as well as the favourable progression of business in the preceding two quarters, UNITEDLABELS AG is expected to continue to perform positively in the coming quarters.
