United Labels AG / Half Year Results

- Year-on-year fall in first-half results

Münster, 13 August 2009 - United Labels AG (ISIN: DE 0005489561), a company
specialising in comicware sold under licence, generated consolidated
revenue of EUR 16.8 million in the first half of 2009 (prev. year: EUR 19.2
million). EBIT for the same period amounted to EUR -1.5 million (prev.
year: EUR 0.3 million). Order backlog developed favourably, rising by 5% to
EUR 14.7 million at the end of the first half of the year (prev. year: EUR
14 million).
The decline in revenue related mainly to key account business in Germany.
Many retailers were affected by market turbulence and therefore took a more
cautious approach to ordering; some customers within the retail sector
failed to honour agreements for orders already placed.
The majority of the European subsidiaries posted positive operating
results, whereas revenue was slightly down on last year's figure.
The company-operated stores offer encouraging prospects for the second half
of the year. In July, a new United Labels store was opened at the highly
frequented 'Maremagnum' shopping centre in Barcelona. October will see the
launch of the first German airport store in Hamburg and
Düsseldorf.
