Its main objective is to improve and facilitate communication, information exchange and business between manufacturers, wholesale/retail and partners. b-gate is implementing the e-business portal for medium-sized companies announced by bäurer AG and Openshop Holding AG. This is based on an innovative independent e-business platform which enables the integration of all common ERP and materials management systems in e-commerce. b-gate is conceived as an open communication platform for equal partners, integrating all businesses and organizations from one branch of industry in an intelligent networking system which optimizes the whole value-added chain as well as business processes in purchasing and sales. A first example of an industry-specific portal of this type will appear in the near future: “OpenOptics”, the e-market for lens manufacturing, lens processing, opticians and eye specialists. Within the framework of its initiative of targeting medium-sized companies, the software manufacturer Oracle is supporting b-gate in the joint marketing for one or several sectors of the market. Oracle is thus showing its active commitment as a problem-solver in co-operation with selected partners in the e-business portal sector for medium-sized companies. The core functions of b-gate include content management with dynamic feature storage and search for supply and demand, buy and sell functions that incorporate dynamic pricing algorithms, and both auctions and reverse auctions. In addition, b-gate provides interfaces for downloading information on companies and their offers and requirements. An outstanding feature of the platform: standardized interfaces for transferring information to the so-called legacy systems on the basis of XML, and content use in all industry-specific platforms.
