Maastricht, 21. Mai 1999 Rhein Biotech, seit Mitte April am Neuen Markt notiert, gibt eine deutliche Steigerung der Produktionstätigkeit in Südamerika bekannt. Das vor allem auf Verfahren zur ökonomisch konkurrenzfähigen Produktion von Hepatitis B Impfstoffen spezialisierte Unternehmen verzehnfacht die derzeitige Kapazität ihrer Hepatitis B Antigen-Produktionsstätte in Argentinien. Im Zuge der beträchtlichen Investition plant Rhein Biotech, den Kapitalanteil an der argentinischen Tochtergesellschaft Rhein Americana in Buenos Aires (Umsatz 1998: eine Million Mark) von 51 auf 100 Prozent aufzustocken. Insgesamt will das Management so die Position auf dem weltweiten Hepatitis B Markt (geschätztes Gesamtmarktvolumen 2003: 2 Milliarden Dollar) entscheidend stärken. Gleichzeitig will Rhein Biotech mit 51 Prozent die Mehrheit beim argentinischen Unternehmen PC Gen erwerben. Die vielversprechende Biotech-Firma ist bereits mit dem Wirkstoff Interferon erfolgreich am südamerikanischen Markt und schrieb im Geschäftsjahr 1998 bereits schwarze Zahlen. Interferon spielt eine wichtige Rolle bei der Behandlung chronischer Hepatitis. Nach einer Studie der Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) sind weltweit eine Milliarde Menschen mit dieser schwerwiegenden Leberkrankheit infiziert. Bei PC Gen befinden sich interessante Produkte im Entwicklungsstadium. So erhält Rhein Biotech mit dem beabsichtigten Mehrheitserwerb an PC Gen Zugang zu neuen und innovativen Technologien. The company which is a specialist in the process for highly competitive production of hepatitis B vaccines, is increasing the current capacity of its hepatitis B antigen production plant in Argentina ten fold. In the course of this significant investment, Rhein Biotech plans to increase the holding in the Argentinean subsidiary Rhein Americana in Buenos Aires (turnover 1998 one million Deutschmarks) from 51 to 100 per cent. The management intends thus to significantly increase Rhein Biotech’s position on the global Hepatitis B market (estimated market volume in 2003: 2 billion Dollars). Simultaneously Rhein Biotech is planning to acquire the majority (51%) of the Argentinean company PC Gen. This promising biotech company is already successfully on the South American market with Interferon and had positive results in the financial year 1998. Interferon plays an important role in the treatment of chronic hepatitis. According to a study by the World Health Organisation (WHO) there are one billion people world wide who are infected with this serious liver disease. Additionally there are interesting products under development at PC Gen. With the planned acquisition of the majority of PC Gen’s shares, Rhein Biotech will also gain access to new and innovative technologies.
