August 2000 antwerpes ag, Cologne (www.antwerpes.de) increased its growth rate once again in the second quarter of 2000, producing a turnover of DM 4.8 million. Compared with the previous year, turnover increased in the first 6 months of the year by 109 %, reaching DM 7.5 million by the end of June (prior year DM 3.6 million). This increase in turnover has resulted from purely organic growth. Profits also showed a very pleasing increase. At DM 987,000, the EBIT was significantly over plan. The company had expected to have, by the mid-year, an EBIT of just DM -0.1 million, one of the reasons being that DocCheck was to require high investment in expanding its healthcare portal internationally. All service divisions of the company contributed to the growth in turnover: examples of this were New Media with an increase of DM 1.2 million, or 175 %, to DM 3.3 million and the Classic Media unit expanding by DM 2.2 million (46 %) to DM 3.3 million. The growth of the subsidiary, DocCheck Medical Services GmbH, the largest healthcare portal in Europe, has given particular satisfaction. Some of this was derived from a part of the newly won major contract from Novartis. Turnover rose from DM 269,000 in the first quarter to DM 880,000 in the second quarter of 2000. This meant an increase of 604 % compared with the same period in the previous year. During the same time the number of registered users at DocCheck increased by 240 % from 13,200 to 50,000. Despite the strong growth, the international promotion and expansion of the DocCheck platform has remained profitable for antwerpes. The company is planning further aggressive investments over the coming quarters in future projects in the healthcare market.
