Berlin, Germany, August 11, 1998. BETA Systems Software AG
announced preliminary results of operations for the second
quarter and six months ending June 30, 1998.
For the second quarter ended June 30, 1998 revenues were
DM 17.7 million, up DM 4.3 million (+32.4%) from revenues
of DM 13.4 million in the comparable quarter of the prior
year. Pre tax income was DM 0.5 million, an increase of
DM 1.6 million as compared to a loss before taxes of
DM (1.1) million in the prior year period. Net income
was DM 0.2 million, or DM +0.13 per share as compared
to a net loss of DM (0.6) million, or DM (+0.56) per
share in the 1997 period.
For the six months ended June 30, 1998, revenues were
DM 30.9 million, up DM 6.5 million (26.8%) from revenues
of DM 24.4 million in the comparable period of the prior
year. The Company’s loss before income taxes was
DM (2.8) million, a decrease of DM 0.3 million as compared
to DM (3.1) million in the 1997 period. BETA’s net loss for
the first half year was DM (1.4) million, or DM (0.78) per
share, as compared to DM (1.4) million, or DM (1.33) per
share in the 1997 period.
Revenue growth in the 1998 second quarter was due primarily
to a 92% increase in new licenses and an 81% increase in
CPU upgrades reflecting strong new license growth in the
Company’s US operations and a significant increase in
its customers’ computing capacity worldwide. The growth
in the Company`s income before taxes resulted primarily
from improved revenue growth, higher gross margins on
license revenues and reduced selling expenses as a
percentage of total revenues.
In discussing the results, Christiane Hotz-Firlus ,
chief financial officer commented: ‘We are pleased
with our second quarter numbers which significantly
exceeded those of our 1997 second quarter and our
internal expectations. Our first half results give us
confidence of achieving our financial targets for the
1998 fiscal year.’
BETA Systems Software plans to release its full results
for the 1998 second quarter on August 26, 1998.
