Total revenues for the past fiscal year were DM 80.6 million compared to DM 89.7 in the fiscal year 1999. Included in the revenue figures for 1999 are revenues of DM 14.3 million from two US-subsidiaries, the assets of which were sold in January 2000. After adjustment for these divestitures, total revenues of BETA Systems Software AG increased by 7%. The operating loss decreased from DM 7.2 million in 1999 to DM 5.3 million in the fiscal year 2000. The loss before interest and taxes decreased from DM 6.3 million in 1999 to DM 4.3 million in the fiscal year 2000. The loss before taxes decreased by DM 2.0 million from DM 4.8 million in 1999 to DM 2.8 million in the fiscal year 2000. This corresponds to a reduction of the pre-tax loss by 42%. The results for the fiscal year were to a great extent negatively affected by depreciation in connection with the termination of reseller agreements in the Data Center Management area and by risk prevention measures in the form of provisions for possible losses resulting from financial assets, amounting for DM 3.5 million. In the fiscal year 2000, the Company recorded a net loss of DM 3.2 million or DM 0.80 per share compared to a net loss of DM 2.8 million or DM 0.75 per share in 1999. Largely as a result of the divestiture of the US operations, the Company reduced its work force by approximately 12.9% from 357 at December 31, 1999 to 311 at December 31, 2000. As announced in the outlook of our report for the third quarter, the deficit during the first three quarters could not be completely offset by these results and led to an overall loss for the fiscal year 2000. However, especially some larger contracts in the Document Management area and a stronger demand in connection with an increase in computing capacities on the area of Data Center Management show that Beta Systems is on the right track .” Mr. Veigel went on to add: “The past fiscal year 2000 for BETA Systems Software AG was characterized by the starting of great changes in our company and the results reflect this. In particular, the restructuring of our German-speaking sales force, the reorganization of our business activities in the US and the new positioning on growing markets showed their first advancements and we are confidently moving into the next fiscal year.
