PAC CENT CYBER<1186> - Announcement

The Stock Exchange has received a message from Pacific Century CyberWorks 
Limited which is reproduced as follows:

"Pacific Century CyberWorks Limited ("PCCW") has noted recent speculation 
regarding its association with a possible offer for Cable & Wireless HKT 
Ltd. ("HKT"). PCCW regularly reviews opportunities in the Internet and 
connectivity spaces and noted with interest regarding the announcement by 
HKT on 24th January 2000.

Whilst it is too early to determine whether any proposal will be 
formulated for presentation to the Board of HKT, PCCW has retained the 
investment bank Warburg Dillon Read (the investment bank division of UBS) 
and Bank of China International, to assist in assessing all alternatives 
including possible investment in HKT.
