SAUDI ARABIAN MINING COMPANY (MAADEN) ANNOUNCES TEMPERARY HALT OF ONE OF TWO POT LINES AT THE SMELTER OF ITS SUBIDIARY MAADEN ALUMINUM COMPANY

Saudi Arabia Mining Company (Maaden) announces that on 16/10/2013 its subsidiary Maaden Aluminum Company that is 74.9% owned by Maaden and 25.1% owned by Alcoa has halted production of one of two pot lines at the smelter in Ras Al Khair.
The temporary shutdown of the production of one of the two pot lines which still remains in initial start-up phase was undertaken after a period of pot instability.
Maaden Aluminum Company is actively working to restore the pot lines production which is expected to be back online between the first and second quarter, 2014.
The ramp-up of the second pot-line is being accelerated and no impact is expected to Maadens customers.
This halt will have no significant financial impact on the results of the up-coming quarter as the project has not yet reached commercial production and will not impact any other part of the Joint Venture project, including the mine, refinery or rolling mill, which all remain on schedule. Any additional information will be announced in due time
