Starnberg, August 14, 2003. DCI AG today announced its results for the second
quarter of 2003. On a quarterly basis, consolidated revenues totaled 869,000
Euro compared with 3,673 million Euro in the equivalent quarter last year. Sales
revenues amounted to 1.859 million Euro in the first six months of 2003,
compared with 7.254 million Euro in the first half of 2002. The decline can for
the most part be attributed to the fact that revenues recorded by the MuK GmbH
subsidiary deconsolidated at October 31, 2002 were still included in the
consolidated financial statements in the prior year period. The operating result
improved to minus 877,000 Euro from minus 2.247 million Euro in the second
quarter of 2002 (minus 2.259 million Euro in the first half of 2003 versus
minus 4.940 million Euro in the first half of 2002). The consolidated income
amounted to minus 733,000 Euro for the period from April to June 2003 (versus
minus 2.674 million Euro in Q2/2002) and minus 2.041 million Euro for the first
six months of 2003 (versus minus 5.645 million Euro in the same period last
year). At June 30, 2003, the corporate group had liquid assets totaling 4.364
million Euro.
The DCI Group managed to depress expenditures still further in the second
quarter of 2003 on the back of systematic cost-cutting measures. A sharp decline
in marketing expenses coupled with a smaller workforce helped to reduce sales
costs to 590,000 Euro from 1.144 million Euro in the second quarter of 2002, for
instance. The deconsolidation of MuK GmbH has also resulted in a significant
reduction in production costs, with the total falling to 579,000 Euro from 2.297
million Euro in Q2, 2002.
Further cost-cutting and restructuring measures will be implemented during the
rest of 2003, particularly since the business involving electronic product
catalogs, which is still in the process of being set up, is not yet living up to
expectations. Furthermore, activities at the DCI Medien business unit are being
stepped up and a new, attractive business design is being introduced for the
TradeManager.
The complete interim report has been posted on the Internet at www.dci.de, where
it can be reviewed and downloaded.
