Die börsennotierte Venture Capital-Gesellschaft DEWB AG (Deutsche Effecten- und Wechsel-Beteiligungsgesellschaft; WKN 804100) hat 25 Prozent der Geschäftsanteile an der ALVITO Biotechnologie GmbH, Luckenwalde, übernommen. Das ist die bereits achte Beteiligung der Jenaer DEWB im Bereich der Biotechnologie. ALVITO ist auf den Gebieten der Allergologie, Virologie, Toxikologie und Zellkultivierung tätig. Der Arbeitsschwerpunkt des Unternehmens liegt in der Transplantationsmedizin: ALVITO entwickelt eine biogene, dreidimensionale Matrix zur Herstellung künstlicher Organe wie Knochen und Knorpel. Dabei stellt das Unternehmen ein Basismaterial her, auf dem sich körpereigene Zellen in gewünschtem Maße vermehren. Dieses Material ist in seiner chemischen Zusammensetzung biologisch verträglich und kann durch körpereigene Enzyme kontrolliert abgebaut werden. Damit ist es für den Menschen ungefährlich. Bisher wurden künstliche Organe in der Regel auf der Grundlage von Rinder- oder Schweine-Kollagen hergestellt. Diese Methode der Herstellung kann jedoch unerwünschte Nebenwirkungen hervorrufen. Das von ALVITO entwickelte Verfahren soll diese Methode ablösen und neue Chancen in der Transplantationsmedizin eröffnen. Die DEWB ist von dem Marktpotenzial der 3D-Matrix und der Innovations- kraft von ALVITO im stark wachsenden Bereich der Transplantations- medizin überzeugt. Mit dem Beteiligungskapital sollen die 3D-Matrix weiterentwickelt und neue wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter eingestellt werden. The quoted venture capital company DEWB AG (Deutsche Effecten- und Wechsel-Beteiligungsgesellschaft; Security Code No. 804100) has taken a 25 percent stake in ALVITO Biotechnologie GmbH, Luckenwalde. This is already the eighth investment of the Jena-based firm of DEWB in the biotechnology sector. ALVITO operates in the fields of allergology, virology, toxicology and cell cultivation. The focus of the company’s work is on transplantation medicine: ALVITO is developing a biogenic, three-dimensional matrix for the manufacture of artificial organs such as bones and cartilage. In this context, the company manufactures a base material on which the body’s own cells multiply at the rate required. The chemical composition of this material is biologically compatible and can be broken down on a controlled basis by the body’s own enzymes – making it safe for human beings. Up to now artificial organs have normally been manufactured on the basis of cattle or pig collagens. However, this method of manufacture may cause undesirable side effects. The process developed by ALVITO is intended to replace this method and open up new opportunities in transplantation medicine. DEWB is impressed by the market potential of the 3D matrix and the innovative capacity of ALVITO in the rapid growth area of transplantation medicine.
