GE CompuNet and Bechtle cooperate
Kerpen/Gaildorf, 26 June 2002. GE CompuNet AG & Co. oHG and Bechtle AG today
signed a specialisation agreement. The two system houses have agreed to enter
into a strategic alliance in the three areas of configuration services and
logistics, e-procurement solutions and spare parts management. Within the terms
of the cooperation agreement, they intend to take advantage of each other’s best
processes, shorten the lead times for process innovations, and at the same time
improve relations with the manufacturers. Bechtle and GE CompuNet expect the
partnership to lead to an increase in productivity and customer satisfaction,
cost savings resulting from the capture of synergies, and an improvement in
their own margins from the economies of scale that will become available.
The companies announced that they been granted an exemption by the German
competition authority for the cooperational aspects of their agreement. The
partnership means that for the first time in Germany two large system houses
operating throughout the country will have the long-term benefit of sharing
important business processes. Bechtle’s catalogue and e-procurement system are
regarded within the industry as “best practice”. The same is also true for GE
CompuNet’s configuration centre and spare part management system. The two
companies will publish a more detailed joint press release later this morning.
