In an, as expected, sharply declining market, Bechtle has, according to provisional data, increased its pre-tax result (EBT) by over 80% to approximately euro 8 mill. in comparison with the first six months in the previous year (H1/02: euro 4.3 mill.). The EBT of the 2nd quarter of 2003 (approximately euro 4.1 mill.) is significantly higher than the result in the same quarter of the previous year (Q2/02: euro 2.6 mill.). The improvement in our results can be attributed to stringent cost control as well as our policy against sales at any price. In the 2nd quarter of 2003, Bechtle generated sales of euro 188.5 mill. (Q2/02: 184 mill). In comparison with the first six months in the previous year, Bechtle achieved an increase of about 2.5 percent in sales to approximately euro 360 mill. (1/02: euro 351.4 mill.). The figures cited include PSB AG, which was consolidated with effect from April 1, and in which Bechtle has held a majority interest since March 25. The corporate valuation report of PSB AG, prepared in the context of the squeeze-out procedure which Bechtle seeks to implement, has valued the PSB shares at euro 8.64 per share. Outlook: in the IT industry, the first half of the year is typically weaker in terms of sales. Given the unclear market situation, it not possible at present to make a prognosis with regard to development of the forthcoming quarters.
